Strokestown GAA - Pitch Development - Planned Facilities

The new grounds are behind the secondary school off church street. This is an excellent location for the planned facilities as it is near the primary and the secondary school, the community centre and the new soccer pitch which is currently being developed.

This location could not be more of an improvement on the current location. There is ample parking space in the grounds of the community centre etc. The pitch is in a safe and secure location for children of the community to use. If all goes ahead according to plan there will be three GAA pitches and one soccer pitch, a running track, an excellent gym hall and changing rooms, two schools and a pre-school centre all together and in close proximity to the towns centre.

It will be a fantastic and invaluable addition to the town and one that is sorely needed considering the rising population and the thriving sports clubs. Its development will ensure the continued and increased success of sports in the town and will also add an additional attraction to the town for prospective house buyers particularly young families.

Work on this ambitious project started in 2007 and phase 1 has (pitch no.1) has been completed. Plans for our new clubhouse and spectator stand (phase 2) have been submitted to Roscommon County Council for approval. We hope that work on this phase will commence in early 2008. Phases 3 and 4 will see the development of pitch no. 2 and the installation of floodlights. So far the development project has moved along at great pace. It is less than 2 years ago that the Club made the decision to develop a new home at Lisroyan. This success so far has only been possible because of the support the Club has received from the people of the Strokestown area and afar. We have spent in excess of 750,000 euro so far on the project and estimate that it will take us another 1.5 million euro to complete the project and realize our dreams. Continued support for the 300 Club draw and other projects such as the 4 peaks hill walking challenge is vital to complete the project.
