Unusually this match was not only the All-County League Final for 2002 but also counted as the third round of the 2003 O'Rourke Cup.
With a title and 2003 points on the line, neither team performed to their ability.
A fit Castlerea could never quite pull away from off-form Strokestown, despite an early goal.
The match was level at half time, 1-3 to 1-3 thanks to a fantastic goal from Shane Flaherty, with about 7 or 8 minutes to go Castlrea were leading by two points but scores from KevinJ and Luke Dolan won the match for Strokestown.
Best for the town were the 2 Cassidys, Damien Donlon and KevinJ.
After securing the Senior Double for
2002, the Town now go in search of the third remaining senior title
by facing Kilmore in the O'Rourke CUp 2002 Final on Easter
Monday.
